The 900MHz frequency band has the characteristics of low propagation loss, wide-coverage, strong penetration ability, and low network deployment cost. It is recognized as the golden frequency band for public mobile communications around the world, and it is also the main frequency band used by early 2G public mobile communication systems.
According to the relevant person in charge of China Unicom, before the end of this year, China Unicom's 900MHz low-frequency network will build 170,000 stations in rural areas, which can quickly improve the level of 5G coverage in rural areas and help the construction of digital villages.
China Unicom uses the 900MHz frequency band to carry out 5G services, which can give full play to the technical advantages of 900MHz in low-frequency voice networks, the Internet of Things, and data networks, and further improve the deep coverage of urban building shelter areas, which is conducive to China Unicom's rapid promotion of rural areas with less investment. 5G coverage in rural and remote areas, helping consumers in rural and remote areas to better enjoy high-quality 5G services and expanding the space for low-band 5G industries.
China Unicom network technology experts further pointed out that in towns and rural areas, where the population density is relatively low and the regional coverage area is relatively wide, the use of the 900MHz frequency band to build a 5G network can achieve the goal of wide coverage; in urban areas, where buildings are densely populated, the use of the 900MHz frequency band The construction of a 5G network can expand the deep coverage of the network and improve the network experience of users in some weak coverage and no coverage scenarios.
As of the end of September, the total number of mobile communication base stations in my country reached 10.72 million, of which the total number of 5G base stations reached 2.22 million, accounting for 20.7% of the total number of mobile base stations; the total number of mobile phone users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 1.682 billion , among which 5G mobile phone users reached 510 million, accounting for 30.3% of mobile phone users.
