China's first real-time scheduling 5G virtual power plant project successfully launched

According to the website of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, China Telecom Zhejiang Company and Huaneng (Zhejiang) Energy Development Co. Ltd. recently launched the country's first real-time scheduling 5G virtual power plant project.

After the implementation of the 5G virtual power plant production network project, it is estimated that 327,000 tons of raw coal will be saved each year, and 620,000 tons of carbon emissions will be reduced each year. The customer's marginal cost input is only one-tenth of the traditional solution, which will greatly enhance the competitive cost advantage. China Telecom Zhejiang Co., Ltd. will further enrich the application of full-service scenarios such as "power generation, transmission, transformation, distribution, and consumption", take Huaneng (Zhejiang) as an example to open up technical paths and business models, and actively promote the formation of a virtual power plant industry standards and national standards.

A virtual power plant (VPP) essentially integrates distributed power sources, controllable loads, and energy storage using computer communication network technology into a whole, and participates in grid operation and the power market as a special power plant through unified scheduling. It is equivalent to a controllable power supply, which can be used as a positive power plant to supply power to the system and can also be used as a negative power plant to absorb system power, flexibly realize peak shaving and valley filling, and at the same time provide various types of auxiliary services.
