DSCC: Mini LED display is growing steadily

DSCC released a report that in the third quarter of 2022, Mini LED backlight shipments reached 5.1 million units, an increase of 30% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 158%.

Apple continues to dominate Mini LED shipments. iPad shipments were 1.4 million units and MacBook 2 million units. Apple's MiniLED shipments account for more than 70% of the entire MiniLED product.

DSCC said that due to the plan to use OLED for iPads after 2024 and MacBooks after 2025, it is expected to see the same situation before 2025. Going forward, DSCC expects:

  • In 2021, MiniLED panel shipments for all applications will be 9.8 million, and it is expected to reach 37 million in 2026.
  • The highest year-on-year growth will be 88% in 2022, falling to 17% in 2026.
  • Notebooks will be the main driver of MiniLED growth until 2026.
  • The 12.9-inch iPad Pro and 14-inch/16-inch MacBook Pro will continue to contribute significantly to MiniLED tablet and notebook shipments until 2025.
  • OLED will be used in iPads in 2024 and MacBook Pros in 2025. This will have a big impact on MiniLED.
  • Samsung, LG, and major Chinese TV brands continue to bring MiniLED TVs to market. This will push TVs to become the largest MiniLED shipments application after 2026.
  • Besides IT and TV displays, MiniLED is beginning to penetrate into more applications, such as AR/VR, automotive, medical...etc.
