IDC: Chinese inkjet printer Q3 shipments surpass laser printers

Today, IDC released a report stating that in the third quarter of 2022, China's printing peripheral market will ship 4.65 million units, a year-on-year increase of 12.7%.

Among them, the shipments of inkjet printers were 2.18 million units, a year-on-year increase of 58.2%; the shipments of laser printers were 2.05 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 9.7%; the shipments of dot matrix printers were 419,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of 12.3%.

The report pointed out that in the third quarter of 2022, the demand for the consumer printer market will continue to grow, and its market share will also continue to expand, which will also drive the continued growth of the inkjet printer market. Currently, inkjet printer shipments have surpassed 2.1 million units for two consecutive quarters, surpassing laser printer shipments for the first time in the third quarter. Reasons for this include:

• In order to adapt to the frequent outbreaks, home office and online learning have become the norm, and the demand for home printing has grown rapidly.
• The international epidemic ushered in a new winter epidemic season, and the domestic epidemic situation rebounded significantly in some areas, and the epidemic situation became more severe and complicated, which will further stimulate the demand for home printers in the short term.
• Large-scale ICT manufacturers such as Huawei have launched household inkjet products, which has further enhanced ordinary consumers' awareness and willingness to consume printers.

In the commercial printer market, the shipment of A4 laser printers was 1.816 million units, down 10.4% year-on-year. Shipment of A3 copiers was 222,000 units, down 3.1% year-on-year.

IDC believes that the high growth rate of the printer consumer market this year is mainly driven by the high incidence of the epidemic. will also slow down. In addition, shipments in the commercial market in the fourth quarter may be lower than last year, but in the future, under the effective control of the epidemic, the economy will gradually recover, and the commercial printer market will also recover.
