On-site real shot of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform

Qualcomm held the 2022 Snapdragon Summit yesterday morning, at which it officially released its new flagship product, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, which has been improved in all aspects compared to the first generation.

The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform is manufactured using a 4nm process. Compared with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, it brings up to 35% improvement in CPU performance and a 40% increase in energy efficiency. The new Kryo CPU adopts the new 1+2+2+3 architecture, a super large core Kryo Prime core (based on Cortex-X3) running at 3.2GHz to provide high single-thread performance. There are also four performance cores running at 2.8GHz for better handling of multi-threaded workloads. Finally, there are three efficiency cores clocked at 2.0GHz.

The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 now supports LP-DDR5X with a frequency of up to 4,200MHz (higher than LP-DDR5's 3,200MHz), and the storage supports the new UFS 4.0.

GPU: The new generation of Adreno GPU has a 25% performance improvement and a 45% power efficiency improvement. It also brings support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing to the Snapdragon platform.

From the actual chip point of view, the chip size of the new generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform is not much different from the previous generation. It is only about the size of a 50-cent coin. It is hard to imagine that such a small size can release very strong performance. , to drive our smartphones to complete various high-load tasks.

According to Qualcomm, ASUS ROG, Honor, iQOO, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, Red Devils, Sharp, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi, Star Age/Meizu, and ZTE will launch smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Mobile phones, the first mobile phones based on this processor will be available before the end of this year.
