Qualcom will maintain the multi-generation factory strategy

Qualcomm CMO Don McGuire said in an interview with reporters that he will maintain a multi-generation factory strategy and continue to maintain a cooperative relationship with Samsung.

The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 uses TSMC's 4nm process. Qualcomm previously entrusted all orders for the previous generation of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 to Samsung Electronics, but it has been transferred to TSMC since the second half of last year. At that time, the industry believed that the low yield rate of Samsung's 4nm process led to Qualcomm's turn.

Qualcomm CMO Don McGuire said in an interview that for the 3-nano and 2-nano foundry utilization plan, it will continue to maintain a cooperative relationship with Samsung Foundry.

When asked if he would maintain a multi-foundry strategy, Maguire CMO replied in the affirmative, saying, Qualcomm is too big to work with a single-generation fab, and a multi-fab strategy is much easier on the supply side. , also has advantages in terms of price competitiveness and scale. In addition, the multi-generation factory strategy is more suitable for expanding into business areas other than smartphones.

Qualcomm held the 2022 Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii this morning, at which it officially released its new flagship product, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which has been improved in all aspects compared with the first generation.
