China Mobile Expands 5G and Gigabit Broadband Capabilities, Sees Strong Financial Performance

China Mobile, one of the largest telecommunications companies in China, has made significant progress in its 5G rollout and gigabit broadband expansion. According to Chairman Yang Jie, the company has opened over 1.27 million 5G base stations and has reached gigabit broadband coverage in 240 million households.

In addition to expanding its 5G and broadband capabilities, China Mobile has also focused on innovation and the development of new technologies. The company has built a test and demonstration network for computing power networks and has strengthened its east-to-west computing, storage, and training efforts. It has also launched innovative applications such as World Cup metaverse cloud viewing games and naked-eye 3D digital intelligence.

China Mobile has also made strides in its 5G private network expansion, building the largest network across six provinces and cities in the country. This has allowed the company to expand more than 16,000 5G commercial cases across the country.

According to recent data from China Mobile, the company's mobile business customers reached 970 million in October 2022, a decrease of 786,000 from the previous month. Despite this decrease, the company has seen a cumulative increase of 16.362 million in mobile business customers this year. In addition, China Mobile has a total of 572 million 5G package customers as of October.

China Mobile's wired broadband customer base has also seen growth, reaching 270 million in October with a net increase of 2.76 million for the month and a cumulative net increase of 27.576 million for the year.

The company's financial performance has remained strong, with a net profit of 98.5 billion yuan in the first three quarters of the year, representing a year-on-year increase of 13%. Operating income was 723.5 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 11.5%. Communication service revenue was 620.1 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.3%, while sales product revenue and other income totaled 103.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 36.4%.

China Mobile has also made significant progress in its 5G rollout, with more than 1.1 million 5G base stations open across the country, accounting for over 50% of the country's 5G base stations. The company's efforts in expanding its telecommunications infrastructure and customer base have contributed to its strong financial performance and position as a leader in the industry.
