Chinese Announces Pilot Enterprises for Radio Transmission Equipment Self-Inspection and Self-Certification in 2022

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has recently announced a list of pilot enterprises that will be participating in radio transmission equipment model approval self-inspection and self-certification in 2022. These enterprises will be responsible for inspecting and certifying their own radio transmission equipment models, rather than relying on external agencies to do so. This move is seen as a way to improve the efficiency of the model approval process, as well as to encourage innovation and competition within the industry.

The list of pilot enterprises includes five companies: Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Sichuan Changhong Electric Co., Ltd., China Academy of Space Technology, Datang Mobile Communication Equipment Co., Ltd., and Fujian Feitong Communication Technology Co., Ltd. Each company will be responsible for self-inspecting and self-certifying a specific type of radio transmission equipment, such as 2.4GHz wireless LAN, satellite communication equipment, 5G NR base station, and FM shipborne radio station.

It is worth noting that Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and Sichuan Changhong Electric Co., Ltd. will both be responsible for self-inspecting and self-certifying 2.4GHz wireless LAN equipment. This is a significant responsibility, as 2.4GHz wireless LAN equipment is commonly used in a variety of applications, including wireless networking, Bluetooth, and wireless audio transmission.

The pilot enterprise certificate for these companies is valid for one year, after which the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will assess the effectiveness of the self-inspection and self-certification process. If the pilot program is successful, it is possible that it will be expanded to include more companies in the future.

This is in accordance with the "Opinions of the General Office of the State Council on Deepening the Reform of the Management System of the Electronic and Electrical Industry," as well as the "Notice on the Development of Radio Transmission Equipment Models" issued by the ministry. The pilot work of self-inspection and self-certification is aimed at streamlining the approval process for radio transmission equipment models and promoting innovation in the industry. Relevant provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in charge of industry and information technology, as well as Qinghai and Ningxia radio management agencies and relevant central enterprises, are responsible for implementing this pilot work.

The list of pilot enterprises for self-inspection and self-certification of radio transmission equipment model approval in 2022 was determined after voluntary application by enterprises, preliminary review by provincial radio regulatory agencies, expert review, and online publicity. Five companies, including Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., were selected as pilot companies. The pilot period will last for one year. Relevant provincial radio management agencies are responsible for organizing, implementing, supervising, and inspecting the pilot work, and for summarizing the results and experiences in a timely manner. Based on the results of the pilot, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will gradually improve and promote the self-inspection and self-certification system.
