MediaTek Dimensity 5G chip completes technical verification based on R17 and RedCap

According to the official information of Keysight Technologies, on December 1, 2022, MediaTek selected Keysight’s 5G network simulation solution to complete the 3GPP 5G Release 17 standard and RedCap Technology Validation for 5G.

MediaTek has successfully established a 5G Rel-17 data connection on its Dimensity 5G mobile chip. This cooperation will help MediaTek accelerate the development of many new features of 5G Rel-17, including lower power consumption and enhanced MIMO.

As a lightweight 5G technology, RedCap continues many features of 5G by supporting technologies such as slicing, terminal power saving, coverage enhancement, and 5GLAN, and can be introduced on demand for different application scenarios.

5G R17 RedCap can greatly reduce the cost and power consumption of 5G terminals by reducing the complexity of terminal radio frequency and baseband. 5G R17 RedCap, as a key 5G technology and solution for medium and high-speed Internet of Things and industrial Internet of Things scenarios, can be mainly used in application scenarios such as wearable devices, industrial Internet of Things, and video applications.

At present, Huawei, ZTE, Ziguang Zhanrui, Vivo, Nokia Bell, Ericsson, etc. have all tested and verified RedCap to varying degrees.
