Apple to Release 15-inch MacBook Air with M2 Chip in Q2 2023

Apple is set to release a new 15-inch MacBook Air equipped with the M2 chip in the second quarter of 2023, according to a report by DigiTimes Supply Chain. The M2 chip is a follow-up to the M1 chip, which was released in November 2020 and is found in the current 13-inch MacBook Air. The M2 chip is expected to be manufactured on TSMC's second-generation 5nm process, with the 3nm-based M3 chip set to follow.

Low MacBook Shipments in Q1 2023

DigiTimes reports that industry sources have predicted low MacBook shipments in the first quarter of 2023. However, the release of the new MacBook Air series in the second quarter is expected to boost sales.

Display Panels for 15-inch MacBook Air in Production

Ross Young, a display industry analyst, also recently reported that Apple's supply chain has begun producing display panels for the larger MacBook Air 15-inch this month. Young estimates that the new MacBook Air will launch in "early April of this year," which falls within the second quarter of 2023.

Two Different Screen Sizes for MacBook Air

The release of the 15-inch MacBook Air means that Apple will once again offer the MacBook Air in two different screen sizes. The company previously offered the MacBook Air in 11-inch and 13-inch versions, but eventually simplified the lineup and discontinued the 11-inch model. The current 13-inch MacBook Air will continue to offer the M2 chip.

Ming-Chi Kuo Reports Two Configurations for 15-inch MacBook

Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also reported on the rumored 15-inch MacBook, but he referred to it as a "MacBook" rather than a MacBook Air. Kuo claims that the 15-inch MacBook will come in two configurations, the M2 and M2 Pro.
