China Telecom and Huawei successfully complete the country's first steel scene 5G RedCap test

China Telecom, together with Huawei and other industry partners, recently completed the first national RedCap test for the steel industry in Shijiazhuang. This groundbreaking test shows that RedCap technology can meet the needs of remote stacking and reclaiming, AI scrap grading, automatic identification of steel transfer, driving video surveillance, and other business applications.

The test was conducted by China Telecom Hebei Branch, Ausen Iron and Steel Group, Tianyi IoT 5G IoT Joint Open Laboratory, and Huawei RedCap technical team. The key focus of the test was on the basic functions of the scene, service rate, delay, and network coverage capability.

What is RedCap?

The 3GPP R17 standard protocol defines RedCap as a key technology for medium and high-speed IoT scenarios. RedCap technology reduces the terminal spectrum bandwidth to 20MHz and uses 1R or 2R receiving antennas, making it possible to reduce the price of 5G modules in the future. At the same time, it inherits the advantages of 5G network slicing and low latency. Compared with 4G IoT technology, RedCap has intergenerational advantages, better performance, and stronger functions. The industry is calling for accelerated commercialization of RedCap.
