Intel i9 13980HX Outperforms Apple M2 Max

In a recent article by foreign technology media AppleInsider, it was revealed that the performance of Intel i9 13980HX outperforms that of the Apple M2 Max, but at the cost of power consumption, heat generation, and noise.

The Opponents: MSI Raider vs. Apple MacBook Pro

The MSI Raider features a 24 core i9 13980HX chip, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, RTX 4090 mobile GPU, and a 17-inch screen with a resolution of 2560*1600, priced at $3999. Meanwhile, the Apple MacBook Pro features a 12-core CPU / 38-core GPU M2 Max chip, 64GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and a 16.2-inch screen with a resolution of 3456x2234, priced at $3899, $100 cheaper.

Performance Comparison

When plugged in, the MSI notebook outperforms the M2 Max in Cinebench, Geekbench, Blender 3D rendering, and Premiere Pro. However, when running on battery power, the M2 Max maintains its performance, while the MSI notebook's score drops significantly.

Battery Drain and Noise Problems

In addition, the battery drain from rendering the same 30-minute 4K 60FPS clip is much higher in the MSI notebook than in the M2 Max. The MSI notebook also produces very loud fan noise while performing heavy tasks, while the M2 Max runs much quieter. Moreover, the MSI notebook can heat up the entire room during intensive tasks, while the M2 Max remains cool.
