Apple Fixes SMB Sharing Problem in Upcoming macOS 13.3 Update

Mac users have been experiencing issues with sharing files through the SMB protocol since the release of macOS 13.2. However, it seems that Apple has finally addressed this problem in the upcoming macOS 13.3 update. Users who have tested the macOS 13.3 Beta 3 reported that they can now use SMB sharing normally.

Reports of the Issue

Following the release of macOS 13.2 in late January, several Mac users took to social media and Reddit communities to complain that they could not share files using the SMB protocol. SMB (Server Message Block) is a protocol used to share files, printers, and other resources between devices on a network. It is commonly used by Windows-based computers.

Many users who rely on SMB sharing for work or personal use were frustrated with the issue. Some users tried various workarounds, such as using different sharing protocols or reverting to an earlier version of macOS. However, these solutions were not ideal, and users continued to report the problem.

Apple's Response

Fortunately, it seems that Apple has finally fixed the issue in the upcoming macOS 13.3 update. Users who have tested the macOS 13.3 Beta 3 reported that they can now use SMB sharing normally. This is welcome news for Mac users who have been struggling with this issue for several months.

Other Improvements in macOS 13.3

In addition to addressing the SMB sharing issue, the upcoming macOS 13.3 update includes several other improvements. We reported on March 22 that Apple released the macOS 13.3 RC preview/public beta, which introduces new emojis and a revised HomeKit architecture with fewer bugs affecting HomeKit settings.

The update also includes content previews for shared Mastodon links in the Messages app and a new option in Shortcuts to create workflows that include Siri notification announcements.

Release Date

macOS 13.3, also known as macOS Ventura, has gone through multiple rounds of beta testing, and Apple plans to release it publicly this spring. This means that Mac users will not have to wait long to enjoy the improvements and fixes in this update.
