China's Telecom Business Revenue Reaches 280.3 Billion Yuan in First Two Months of 2023

 The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China recently released the economic operation of the country's communications industry for the first two months of 2023. The report highlighted that the overall operation of the information and communication industry in the country was stable, with the revenue and total business volume of the telecommunications business growing steadily. The report also highlighted that the construction of new infrastructure such as 5G, gigabit optical networks, and the Internet of Things has steadily advanced, and the scale of network connection end-users has continued to expand.

Steady Growth in Revenue

According to the data, the total revenue of the telecom business reached 280.3 billion yuan during the first two months of 2023, which was a year-on-year increase of 7.9%. The total amount of telecommunications business calculated at the constant price of the previous year increased by 17.7% year-on-year.

Steady growth was also observed in emerging businesses such as cloud computing, which saw an increase in driving force, leading to an increase in revenue from the telecom business. From January to February, the three basic telecommunications companies completed a total of 62.9 billion yuan in business revenue, which was a year-on-year increase of 25.7%, accounting for 2.24% of telecom business revenue, boosting the growth of telecommunications business revenue by 5 percentage points.

Mobile Phone Users

The report showed that the total number of mobile phone users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 1.695 billion as of the end of February. This was a net increase of 11.88 million compared with the end of the previous year. Among them, 5G mobile phone users reached 592 million, which was a net increase of 31.29 million from the end of the previous year. This accounted for 34.9% of mobile phone users, an increase of 1.6 percentage points from the end of the previous year.

Mobile Internet Traffic

During the first two months of 2023, the cumulative mobile Internet traffic reached 41.79 billion GB, which was a year-on-year increase of 12%. However, the growth rate dropped by 8.7 percentage points year-on-year. The number of mobile Internet users reached 1.468 billion as of the end of February, which was a net increase of 14.22 million over the end of the previous year. In February, the average mobile Internet access traffic per household (DOU) was 14.04GB/household/month, a year-on-year increase of 14.8%. However, this was 2.14GB/household/month lower than that in December last year.
