Apple to Launch Generative AI Functions in iOS 18, Including Cloud and Device

Apple is reportedly planning to launch generative AI functions in iOS 18, according to Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu. Pu cited his own supply chain investigation and claimed that Apple may set up hundreds of AI servers this year and next to implement related functions.

Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can generate new content, such as text, images, and code. It is still under development, but has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with computers.

Apple has not yet confirmed that it is planning to launch generative AI functions in iOS 18, but the company has been investing heavily in this area in recent years. In 2022, Apple acquired the AI startup Lattice Data, which specializes in generative AI.

It is unclear how Apple will use generative AI in iOS 18, but Pu believes that the company will provide a combination of cloud and device-side AI to ensure user privacy. He also said that the outside world needs "a little patience" to wait for Apple to launch its own generative AI service, because Apple is still considering "how to use and process personal data in a manner consistent with customer privacy commitments."

If it goes as planned, Apple may launch generative AI features starting with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, but it is unclear which specific features will be available.
