In a remarkable feat, SAIC-GM-Wuling announced today that its annual sales for the year 2023 have exceeded 1.4 million units, marking a significant milestone for the renowned automotive joint venture. The company disclosed that it sold 201,666 new vehicles in December 2023 alone, reflecting a month-on-month surge of 26%.
The annual sales figure, totaling 1,403,066 units, showcased a robust performance, with passenger vehicles accounting for 500,232 units and commercial vehicles contributing 639,681 units. Specific models also displayed strong sales, with the Wuling Xingguang, Hongguang MINIEV, and Wuling Bingo collectively selling 485,829 units. The Baojun brand recorded a total of 51,641 vehicles sold, including 211,512 units exported overseas—an impressive year-on-year increase of 9%, setting a new historical record.
In a separate announcement, SAIC General Motors reported a groundbreaking achievement in the electric vehicle market. Sales of new energy vehicles for the year 2023 surpassed 100,000 units, marking a remarkable year-on-year increase of 125.2%. December alone witnessed sales reaching 18,911 vehicles, reflecting a staggering year-on-year increase of 312.4%.
Key models contributing to the success included the Buick E5, which totaled 35,129 units in annual sales, the Buick Weilan 6 with 45,538 units, and the Cadillac IQ Ruige with 5,400 units. SAIC-GM anticipates continued growth in the electric vehicle sector with plans to launch eight new energy models in 2024 and 2025, featuring both pure electric and plug-in hybrid variants.
Furthermore, the Dongyue Autoneng Gigafactory has commenced construction and is slated for mass production in the first half of 2025. SAIC-GM has taken strides in enhancing its charging infrastructure, with 54 brand-built charging stations, four Alcan airport charging service centers, and connectivity initiatives with Tesla’s China charging network.
Looking ahead, SAIC-GM aims to introduce several advancements, including the launch of eight new energy models, an upgraded VCS intelligent cockpit system featuring the Snapdragon 8195 chip, and the integration of AI large model technology in the coming year. The company also revealed plans to implement high-end intelligent assisted driving functions, with the high-speed pilot assist feature set to debut on the Buick Century. SAIC-GM is poised for continued innovation and growth in the evolving automotive landscape.
